The SIG SAUER P226 is a pistol designed in Switzerland by Sig and produced in Germany by Sauer. Developed to meet the US Army's competition to replace the Colt 1911, it lost by a short margin to the Beretta 92. Some special units have adopted it, however, such as the Navy rubbers and the Counter Terrorism Hostage Letting Squad (CTHL).
